Hour 001

This exercise is from Draw A Box

This lesson is about seeing forms in 3D shapes. The 3D forms should intersect in 3D space, creating a new hybrid form. This is easier to understand for an example of a smaller box jutting out from the side of a larger box, like you might see in a building or an equipment casing. But much harder to grasp for floating cylinders intersecting with boxes on a different plane.

I wish this exercise started with simpler shapes and intersections to learn the concepts in an easier way, then built up to more complicated shapes, but DAB seems to want to throw you into the deep water. It does challenge you to do more before you feel you are ready. But I make a lot of mistakes when I forget how the shapes exist in 3D.

Next time I do this exercise, I want to take a photo of the page and play with it in Procreate, making the 3D shapes more real in my mind before trying to do the intersections.

I didn’t track my time, but it took about 1 hour.
