This card is from SVS Figure Drawing for Illustrators.
This lesson is about adding more structure to a gesture figure using a tapered cylinder model. We are still using all the previous steps of finding the line of action, sketching the flour sack and tapered triangles for limbs, finding the weight, etc. Then we add the tapered cylinder to give things more structure. This is a big difference from the box maniquin method and will hopefully give my gestures more flow. I would just go straight to the box maniquin instead of figuring out weight and flow of action. So it’s exciting to learn. This took a bit of practice however. I’ll work on timed figures which should help speed up the process.
Next time I will work through all 10 characters in an hour, using a timer to keep things moving.
Photoshop using Huion tablet.
I did 40 minutes practice and then 20 minutes to complete this image.
