Hour 044

This card is from SVS Magic of Color.

This lesson is about designing your color scheme for a piece. Beginners tend to grab any and all colors based on the true color of objects, but just like composition or shape, you should design your colors. This helps the piece to be more cohesive and to lead the viewer into the piece and increase understanding. There should be a focus to a piece and color can help emphasize the focus. Color really is a challenge for me. I don’t understand it and had a hard time picking colors. But, I like how this example turned out, even though I had to give up on it after working for more than an hour. I wasn’t sure how to color in the rest in a cohesive way. I kept getting muddy colors when trying to mix in photoshop. But, I’m happy with the orange, yellow and browns. I think the piece works well together so far. But I just need to keep practicing.

Next time I will continue in Photoshop with the examples given from the class. Hopefully next time I can complete a few of them.

Photoshop using Huion tablet.

I did 30 minutes practice and then 50 minutes to complete this image.

Note, this is an example from class. This is Will Terry’s line work and my coloring.
